EDID on the HDfury Arcana: what it does and when to touch it
Almost every stubborn audio or video problem eventually arrives at EDID. It is also the setting people break their working system with, so it is worth understanding before changing anything.

The short version
- Leave AutoMix alone unless you have an identified reason. It is the default on both the HDfury Arcana and the HDfury Arcana 2, and it is designed for exactly this situation.
- If you do need a forced mode — TV only, eARC only or TV+eARC — note that it runs over RS232 or the optional GO2 dongle. There is no EDID entry in the OLED menu.
- Power-cycle the source after any EDID change. Sources cache EDID and will otherwise keep using the old description.
- Some sources need more. The manual names the Xbox One S and the Samsung K8500 as devices that may need the power cord removed and reconnected.
- Write down what you changed. A firmware update resets everything to factory defaults, including any forced EDID.
Which model do you have?
HDfury Arcana (18Gbps). AutoMix creates a custom EDID by mixing the EDID and CDS of both sinks connected to the output ports. Forced modes such as TV only, eARC only and TV+eARC run over RS232; there is no EDID entry in the OLED menu.
HDfury Arcana 2 VRR (40Gbps). What EDID actually is
EDID is a block of data that a display or audio system hands to whatever is feeding it, describing what it can accept: resolutions, frame rates, colour formats, HDR support and audio formats. Your source reads that block and then sends only what the block says is acceptable.
This is why a source refuses to send a format even though everything in the chain supports it. The source is not being difficult; it is being obedient to a description that is wrong or incomplete.
It also explains a recurring pattern: the fault is not where the symptom appears. A television that does not list DTS in its EDID causes the source to stop sending DTS, and the missing sound looks like a soundbar problem.
AutoMix, the default
Both models handle this automatically out of the box. The AutoMix feature builds a custom EDID by combining what the connected devices report, so the source is told about the video capabilities of the display and the audio capabilities of the sound system at the same time.
The two models describe it slightly differently. On the HDfury Arcana, AutoMix mixes the EDID and CDS of both sinks connected to the output ports. On the Arcana 2, it mixes the video specification of the TX0 EDID with the CDS or audio specification of the devices connected at the output ports.
The effect is the same, and it is the whole point of the device: your source stops being limited to the intersection of what one display happens to advertise. Both models can also sniff EDID and CDS from connected sinks, which is how they know what to mix.
Forced modes, and where they live
AutoMix can be overridden. The manual lists modes that can be forced, such as TV only, eARC only and TV+eARC.
One detail matters more than any other here, and it is the thing most advice on the internet gets wrong: advanced EDID management runs over RS232. There is no EDID entry in the OLED menu. The OLED menu holds Audio, Scaler, eARC, HDR, LLDV>HDR, OSD, FW/RESET and EXIT — that is the complete list on both models.
So if someone tells you to change the EDID mode in the menu, they are describing something that is not there. For RS232 you need a DB9 or USB-to-RS232 cable, or the optional GO2 dongle with its phone app.
The practical consequence is reassuring: if you have never used RS232, you have never forced an EDID, and EDID is unlikely to be the cause of a problem that appeared on its own.
Sources cache EDID, and that catches people out
After any EDID change, power-cycle the source. Sources read EDID at connect and hold onto it; one that is not restarted keeps using the old description and your change appears to have done nothing.
The manual notes that some sources need more than a restart. It names the Xbox One S and the Samsung K8500 as devices that may need the power cord removed and reconnected between EDID changes.
The Apple TV 4K behaves distinctively. It remembers which EDIDs it has successfully tested for Dolby Vision. Change the EDID and it will ask to run the Dolby Vision compatibility test again — but once an EDID has passed, it remembers it and will not ask again the next time that same EDID appears. That is normal behaviour, not a fault.
When to leave it alone
Start from the default. AutoMix is designed for exactly the situation these devices are sold into, and forcing a mode is a way to make your chain worse if you do not know precisely which capability you are trying to suppress or advertise.
Change it when you have a specific, identified reason: a source that will not send a format your sound system definitely supports, a display advertising a capability it cannot actually deliver, or an LLDV setup that needs its data block present.
And record what you change. A firmware update resets everything to factory defaults, so a forced EDID you set months ago will be gone after an update — and if you have not written it down you will spend an evening rediscovering it.
